Once you've completed an activity, you can return to it at any time to edit its details or crop it.

Edit activity details

You can update activity information, including:

  • Activity details, such as the name, sport, or visibility
  • Activity photos, including adding or removing photos, repositioning them along your route, choosing different cover photos, or adding and editing photo captions (website only)
  • Highlights, by creating new or contributing to existing Highlights
  • Participants, by adding people who joined the activity

To make changes, follow these steps:

  1. Open the activity you want to edit > Edit Details
  2. Select the section at the top that you want to update.
  3. Make your changes, then select Done.

Add or edit photo captions (website only)

Adding or editing photo captions is currently supported only on the website, after the activity is finished. The mobile app does not yet offer this option.

To add or edit a caption from the activity view:

  1. Open the finished activity that contains the photos you want to caption.
  2. Select Add photos and hover your mouse over the photo you want to edit.
  3. Select the pencil icon, add or edit your caption, then select Save changes and Done.

You can also add captions from the Waypoints section:

  1. Open the Waypoints section of your activity.
  2. Hover your mouse over the photo in the waypoint you want to caption.
  3. Select the pencil icon, add or edit your caption, then select Save changes.

Crop an activity

You can crop a completed activity to remove the beginning and/or end of the recorded route. This can be useful if your recording includes unwanted sections, such as the time spent getting to or from the actual start of your activity.

Note: Cropping activities are currently only supported on the website.

  1. Open the activity you want to edit > Edit Details
  2. Select Crop from the top menu.
  3. Move the two white markers to define where the activity should start and end. The section that will be kept is shown between the markers.
  4. Select Crop Route to preview the result, then select Crop Route again to confirm.

Attention: Cropping an activity cannot be undone. Any removed sections, including photos taken in those areas, are permanently deleted.

If you don't want to remove parts of your activity, but only hide the start or end location, you can use a privacy zone instead. Learn how to create and manage privacy zones.

Tip: You can also crop an activity using the speed profile below the map by adjusting the start and end points directly on the timeline.

What you can't change in a completed activity

Completed activities on komoot are based on the GPS track recorded during your activity. Because of this, it's not possible to edit or remove individual sections in the middle of a completed activity.

You can only remove parts from the beginning or end of an activity by cropping it.

If you want to clean up or adjust a route beyond cropping, you can replan it in the route planner and then export and reimport it as a completed activity.

Editing timestamps of imported activities

For activities imported from Garmin or other devices, we use the timestamps and elapsed time exactly as they appear in the source file. It is not possible to change the start or end timestamps of a completed activity, and the elapsed time cannot be edited or removed after import.

If the start time or duration is wrong because of incorrect data in the original recording file, you can correct it by editing the file before re-uploading it:

  1. Edit the timestamps in the original GPX, FIT, or TCX file using a GPX editing tool.
  2. Remove the incorrect import. For Garmin imports, go to Profile > Settings > Connections > Garmin Connect > Review import and delete the wrong entry.
  3. Re-import the corrected file: go to Profile > Completed activities > Import a GPS file > Import as Activity. During import you can set the start date and adjust other details.

Note: Elevation data is part of the recorded route. If it is missing in the file you re-upload, we cannot recreate or restore it after import. If you still have the original recording from your device, use that file for the import.
