komoot Premium

Live Tracking is a komoot Premium feature.

Live Tracking lets you share your real-time location while recording or navigating an activity.

When enabled, your safety contacts automatically receive a tracking link as soon as you start an activity. You can also share the link manually with anyone, even if they do not have a komoot account.

Note: An active internet connection is required for Live Tracking to work.

Manage Live Tracking

  1. Go to your Profile > Settings > Live Tracking
  2. Toggle the slider On or Off

When Live Tracking is enabled:

  • Your safety contacts are notified automatically when you start an activity
  • You can manually share the tracking link

You can also enable or disable Live Tracking while recording or navigating.

What safety contacts see

The information shared depends on whether you are recording freely or navigating a planned route.

Anyone with your Live Tracking link can see:

  • Your live location, updated every 1 minute by default or every 5 seconds when actively viewed
  • Your activity status (active, paused, finished) and duration
  • Your distance covered and elevation profile
  • Your phone battery percentage and GPS data, including last update time

Live Tracking details

Live Tracking behavior:

  • Live Tracking stays active for the entire activity
  • It turns off automatically when you finish the activity
  • The tracking link remains available for 28 days
  • After 28 days, the link expires, and all tracking data is deleted

If you use privacy zones, your location remains visible within that zone while Live Tracking is active.

Live Tracking increases battery consumption by approximately 1% per hour compared to using komoot without it. The main battery drain is the screen display.
