Download routes and maps for offline use
You can save a planned route in the komoot app for offline use, allowing you to navigate it without an internet connection.
There is no global offline switch in komoot. Content must be downloaded in advance, either as individual routes or as regional maps. We recommend downloading over a stable Wi‑Fi connection.
Note: Regions and routes can only be downloaded through the app. They are not available for download on the website.
Download a route
- Go to your Profile > Saved Routes and select the planned route you want to use offline.
- Tap the Download button or Save offline.
- While you are still online, open the route again to let the app finish any pending synchronizations and confirm it opens without a warning. Then go offline and open it once more to verify.
Once downloaded, the route is stored on your device and can be used for offline navigation at any time.
Tip: If you see an "Offline data not synchronized" message, see Offline navigation issues.
Offline maps and regions
If you want offline access beyond a single route to record unplanned offline activities, you can download regional maps. Download the maps that cover your entire area, including the start and return.
- Go to your Profile > Maps.
- Tap Download next to a region to save it for offline use.
The regions available for download depend on your access:
- If you have komoot Premium or the World Pack, you can browse Suggested regions or search for any available region.
- If you purchased single regions or region bundles, your available downloads appear under Unlocked.
Regions not available for download
Note: South American regions (including Colombia) are currently not available for offline regional map downloads in the app, even with the World Pack. You can still navigate offline in those areas using the route workaround below.
Some regions shown on komoot may not be available for download in the mobile app. This may happen due to:
- App store limitations: In some countries or regions, the Apple App Store or Google Play Store can restrict how region downloads are offered in apps.
- Coverage availability: In some areas, region downloads aren't offered at all. To check whether a region is available, go to Profile > Maps and search for the area. If no download option appears, that region is not currently available for offline use.
You can find more information about coverage and availability in Region coverage and availability.
Important: Even if region downloads are unavailable, you can still use a specific area offline for orientation or recording.
Follow the workaround below to download a route covering the area. This will allow you to view the map, use turn-by-turn voice navigation, and record your tour even without an internet connection:
- Plan a Route that covers that area and download it.
- Start recording while you're there.
Tip: Only predefined regions are available for download. It is not possible to select or download a custom area.
What does not work offline
Some features require an active internet connection and are not available offline:
- Auto-rerouting: Rerouting requires an internet connection. If you deviate from your route while offline, komoot will alert you and continue showing the original route, but cannot calculate a new path until you reconnect. Auto-rerouting also does not work during group tour navigation. For more details, see Navigation FAQ.
- Route planning and editing: Creating or modifying routes requires an internet connection.
- Live Tracking: Sharing your live location with others requires an active connection.
You can enable Airplane Mode to cut all connections, while keeping GPS turned on.
