Below you'll find the most common error messages shown in the komoot app for Garmin, along with explanations and solutions.

You haven't planned any routes with this account

Error: You haven't planned any routes with this account.

Cause: Your Garmin is connected to a komoot account with no saved routes.

Fix:

  • Confirm you have saved routes under Saved routes in the komoot app or on the komoot website
  • On your Garmin, select Help (if shown) and check the connected email
  • Compare it with the email in your komoot account

If the emails do not match, disconnect and reconnect Garmin using the correct account.

Check you've connected the correct account or plan some routes on komoot now

Error: Check you've connected the correct account or plan some routes on komoot now.

Cause: The connected account is wrong, or it has no saved routes.

Fix:

  • Make sure the connected komoot account contains your saved routes
  • Make sure Garmin Connect is linked to that same komoot account
  • Check which email is connected in the komoot app on your Garmin
  • Compare it with the email in your komoot account

If needed, disconnect and reconnect Garmin via the Connections page on the website or in the komoot app under Profile > Settings > Garmin Connect.

The route is too long for this device

Error: The route is too long for this device. Split this route into stages and try again.

Cause: The route file exceeds your device's size limit.

Current limits:

  • Watches: 256 kB
  • Edge devices: 1024 kB
  • Oregon and GPSmap devices: approximately 740 kB

This limit applies when using Garmin navigation.

Fix:

  • Split the saved route into multiple shorter routes
  • Create copies and shorten each one to a single stage
  • If your device supports komoot navigation, use that instead of Garmin navigation

There is currently no automatic way to split an already planned route into stages. As a workaround, open the route details page and create a copy using Replan this route or Plan similar route. In the copy, keep only one part of the original route, then repeat this for the remaining stages.

This route is corrupted, navigation couldn't be started successfully

Error: This route is corrupted, navigation couldn't be started successfully. Download it again to continue.

Cause: The downloaded route file is incomplete or damaged.

This can happen if the download did not complete properly, if the route name is too long or contains unsupported characters, or if the issue occurs while using Garmin navigation.

Fix:

  • Remove the offline download:
    • Open the route in the komoot app on your Garmin
    • Turn off the Offline toggle
  • Avoid very long route names or special characters such as emojis
  • Download the route again with a stable internet connection
  • If needed, remove the route from device storage via computer
  • If this only happens with Garmin navigation, use komoot navigation instead if your device supports it

The app has no memory left

Error: The app has no memory left. Clear up some space by removing downloaded routes or clearing offline data in Settings.

Cause: The komoot app on your Garmin has limited storage for offline downloads.

This message refers to storage used by the komoot app itself, not the total storage available on your Garmin device.

If Garmin Courses sync is also enabled, you may also run into separate device storage limits because synced routes continue to be stored on the Garmin.

Fix:

  • Remove offline data for one route:
    • Open the route in the komoot app
    • Turn off the Offline toggle
  • Or clear all offline data:
    • Open the komoot app on your Garmin
    • My Profile > Clear all offline data
  • Remove all Garmin integrations in the connection settings. Then reconnect the komoot app for Garmin by following the instructions here

The route will remain visible but is no longer stored offline.

Your device's storage is full

Error: Your device's storage is full. Free up storage by removing courses, deleting downloaded routes or removing music.

Cause: Your Garmin device storage is full.

This message refers to overall storage on the Garmin device, including routes downloaded in the komoot app, routes synced via Garmin Courses, music, and other installed apps.

If Garmin Courses sync is enabled, automatically synced routes may continue to use storage space on the device.

Common reasons:

  • Too many downloaded routes
  • Too many stored courses
  • Music files (if supported)
  • Other installed apps

Fix:

  • Delete unused routes and courses
  • Remove music files (if applicable)
  • Uninstall unused apps
  • Restart the device after freeing up space
  • Remove all Garmin integrations in the connection settings. Then reconnect the komoot app for Garmin by following the instructions here

You can also remove files via the computer: Garmin file management guide

Navigate with device prompts to download the app

Error: You don't yet have the komoot app for Garmin. Download it from the Connect IQ Store to send this route to your device.

Cause: The app isn't installed, you're not logged in, or the wrong account is connected.

Fix:

  • Install the komoot app from the Connect IQ store
  • Open the app and log in
  • If shown a code, enter it on the Connect page
  • Make sure the connected komoot account matches your saved routes

Requirements:

  • The komoot app must be installed
  • Your Garmin firmware must be up to date
  • Your device must be online

If the app is already installed and you're logged in, disconnect and reconnect Garmin using the correct account via the Connections page or in the komoot app under Profile > Settings > Garmin Connect.

You're offline. Only downloaded routes are available

Error: You're offline. Only downloaded routes are available. Connect to your phone via Bluetooth to access more routes.

Cause: Your Garmin does not have internet access.

Even if your device has WiFi, Bluetooth to your phone is often still needed so your Garmin can use the phone's internet connection reliably.

Fix:

  • Turn off WiFi on your Garmin (if available)
  • Enable Bluetooth on both devices
  • Confirm your phone has internet access
  • Check connection in the Garmin Connect app
  • Open the komoot app on your Garmin
  • Restart both devices

You haven't unlocked this region yet / You don't own this region

Error: You haven't unlocked this region yet. or You don't own this region. Unlock it to navigate this Tour on your Garmin.

Cause: The route starts in a region that is not unlocked in your account, or your Garmin is connected to a komoot account that does not own the region.

Fix:

  • Confirm that the region is unlocked on your komoot account.
  • Check that the correct komoot account is connected to your Garmin:
    • On your Garmin, open the komoot app > My Profile and note the email shown there.
    • Compare it with the email at your komoot account details.
  • If the emails do not match, disconnect Garmin from komoot via the Connections page (or in the app under Profile > Settings > Garmin Connect), then reconnect using the correct account. Restart your Garmin and your phone, and sync again.
  • If the emails match and your World Pack or region unlock is active on that same account, uninstall the komoot Connect IQ app from your Garmin, reinstall it, log in again with the same komoot account, and start the route again.

Tip: When you start a route from the komoot app for Garmin, you can choose komoot map (navigation inside the komoot app on your watch, requires komoot Premium) or Garmin (sends a .fit course for Garmin's navigation). They behave differently, so pick the one you intend to use. Without active komoot Premium, only the Garmin option is available for komoot map navigation on Garmin.
