If you’re a komoot Premium user, you can use Live Tracking via the komoot app for Garmin to keep your safety contacts informed about your location while exploring with komoot.

What is Live Tracking?

Live Tracking lets you share your real-time location with trusted contacts while you are on a route. Once activated, your safety contacts receive a link to follow your route so they always know where you are. Using Live Tracking within the komoot app for Garmin

When using komoot on your Garmin device, there are a few ways to activate Live Tracking:

  • You can enable Live Tracking while navigating or recording a route directly from the Start, Pause, or Finish screen on your Garmin device.Screenshot 2025-03-17 at 01.58.48.png
  • Live Tracking can also be enabled directly from the Main Settings screen before selecting an activity.
    1. Open the komoot app on your Garmin device.
    2. Scroll to select Settings.
    3. Scroll to select Live Tracking.
    4. Select from Turned ON or Turned OFF.

What happens when Live Tracking is toggled on?

  • A notification appears in the komoot app for Garmin confirming that the Live Tracking link has been shared.
  • Your safety contacts receive an alert, which can be an in-app notification, push notification, or email based on their settings.
  • A push notification is sent to your phone with a Live Tracking link for manual sharing with anyone, even if they don't have a komoot account.
  • The Live Tracking icon () remains visible on the map to indicate that it is active.

Tip: If you have already started your route, you can turn Live Tracking on or off while recording or navigating by tapping the Live Tracking icon () directly on the map.

What will my safety contacts see?

  • Your live location on the map, updated every 20 seconds by default or every 5 seconds if they are actively viewing the Live Tracking link.
  • Your route status, including active, paused or finished.
  • Your estimated arrival time and the duration of your activity.
  • If navigating a planned route, the planned route line and remaining distance are visible.
  • Your phone’s battery percentage.
  • GPS data, including the last update time.
  • The elevation profile of your route.
