Route warnings at a glance
Ferry
This warning is shown on your route when you’ll need to take a ferry to cross a body of water. If you see this symbol, check ahead to find out when they’re running and how much your ticket will cost. You don’t want to be stranded or left waiting overnight for the next available trip! |
Movable bridgeThis warning is shown when a segment of your route requires you to cross a movable bridge. These may only be operational during certain times of the day, so you should check ahead to make sure you can cross. |
Off-gridThis warning is shown on all routes that include an off-grid segment. These are sections of route that don’t adhere to komoot’s known network of roads, streets or paths. During off-grid sections, you won’t be given any turn-by-turn voice navigation instructions, so be sure to check the map. |
RestrictedThis warning is shown on all routes that may include segments with temporary access restrictions (such as when your route passes through military training areas, reserves during hunting/breeding season, or areas prone to flooding). Entry may still be possible, but you should check ahead and read all signs as you approach. |

UnsuitableThis warning is shown on cycling routes when a section of your route goes over a surface that may be unsuitable for your sport. This could be a portion of trail that’s exceptionally sandy, unpaved or exposed. You may have to push or carry your bike during these sections. |
StepsThis warning is shown on all planned cycling routes when a section goes up or down some steps. Naturally, you’ll need to carry your bike during these parts of your route. If your bike is particularly heavy, you may want to consider rerouting around these sections. |
DismountThis warning is shown on cycling routes when cycling is not permitted during a section of your route, such as a pedestrianized zone in a city center or a forest road where riding is forbidden. You’ll need to dismount and push your bike during these parts of your ride. |

Steep hillThis warning is shown on cycling routes when a section of your route is incredibly steep. This warning is shown when a singletrack is steeper than 10% or when a road/larger track is steeper than 20%. You’ll most likely have to push your bike during these sections, or you can choose to route around them. |
