What is Auto-Rerouting?

Auto-Rerouting is a new feature (Garmin app version 4.12.0 or later) designed to make your komoot navigation experience with Garmin even smoother. Before Auto-Rerouting was introduced, if you veered off your planned route, your device would simply show a dotted blue line directing you back “as the crow flies,” without considering the actual paths or obstacles in your way. Auto-Rerouting changes that by detecting when you stray from your route, briefly notifying you, and then offering a reroute back to your original path.

The focus is to help you enjoy as much of your planned route as possible, rather than just getting you to your destination in the quickest way. The rerouted path is clearly marked—displayed in black with frequent chevrons—so you can easily distinguish it from your original route. And if you happen to stray again, Auto-Rerouting will continue recalculating to bring you back on track.

How Does It Work?

Activating or deactivating Auto-Rerouting is simple. On most bike computers, you’ll find the toggle on the screen where you can also pause or finish your ride. For most watches, it has its own dedicated screen. You can reach this screen by swiping on your screen during navigation.

When you go off-route, you’ll see a quick “Returning you to route” message. Your device will then show three lines: the planned tour in blue, your recorded path in red, and the reroute in black with white chevrons. This black line is your guide back to the original route. If you deviate again, the line adjusts, proposing a new way to return to your planned tour. Rest assured, your original route remains unchanged throughout this process.

Benefits for You: Auto-Rerouting ensures you stay on track by guiding you back to your planned route after any detour, even if you continue to deviate. This feature enhances your navigation experience, allowing you to enjoy your planned adventures without the hassle of manual rerouting.
