The Home and Routes feeds are your go-to places for adventure inspiration. In the Home feed, you can scroll through personalized content, while the Routes feed allows you to search for route suggestions in specific regions. In the app, access the Home feed via the house symbol; on the website, it’s located in the top-left corner labeled Home.

Route suggestions from the search function in the Routes tab consist exclusively of automatically generated recommendations. For personalized content, like routes from users you follow, simply click on Home and scroll through your feed without making additional selections.

What is the difference between starting from your current location and starting within a specific starting area radius when searching for routes?

In the app, you have the option to specify the location for which you want to receive route suggestions after selecting your desired sport. If you choose the option "Start from your current location", you will be recommended ready-made routes that start at your current location. This location is based on the GPS data of your smartphone. On the other hand, if you select a specific starting area radius, komoot will suggest ready-made routes in the chosen vicinity.

If you want to change the location, you can either enter a different location in the search field at the top or tap on a specific location on the map and then click on "See hikes from here"/"See runs from here"/"See rides from here". This will display route suggestions for the selected location.

Tip: On the komoot website you have the possibility to save your home address. This enables you to easily plan routes and receive route suggestions starting from your saved address. Here you can find more information about this option.

What filter options are available?

To customize the search results of the suggested ready-made routes to your needs, the following filter options are available. Each time you make a change, the number of routes that match your filter criteria will be displayed.

Note: The filter options are only available for route suggestions. They cannot be applied within Collections.

Duration/Distance

Move the slider to the desired route duration. The selection ranges from 30 minutes to 10 hours. If you want to take a three to four-hour route, move the slider from the left side to 3 hours and from the right side to 4 hours.

Alternatively, you can choose to Filter by distance and select a distance from 0 meters to a maximum of 200 kilometers. The maximum kilometers may vary depending on the search area.

Difficulty

There are three difficulty levels, which are also indicated by color codes for each route. An easy route is marked in blue, an intermediate route is marked in red, and an expert route is marked in black. The difficulty level of a route is based on the required fitness level, the type of sport, and the technical difficulty of the route. Here you can find detailed information about the difficulty levels for each sport.

Start from

You have the option to choose the starting point for the route suggestions. You can start from Anywhere, choose a Car park as the starting point, or consider using Public transport as the starting point.

Attention: Currently, the filter option Start from is only available on the website.

Elevation

Move the slider to the desired number of meters of elevation. The maximum elevation may vary depending on the search area. If you want to take a route with at least 500 meters and up to 2,000 meters of elevation gain, move the slider from the left side to 500 meters and from the right side to 2,000 meters.

Surface

With the 'Surface' filter option, you can select the type of paths and surfaces according to your preferences when searching for route suggestions. You have the option to choose between the following options: No preference, Road or paved, or Off-road.

Route Type

All will show you both circular routes and "Out and back" routes.

Circular refers to routes that form a loop. The route will bring you back to the starting point. The starting and ending points are the same.

Out and back refers to routes that lead you from a starting point to a certain destination and then require you to reverse your path to return to the starting point. Essentially, you travel "out" to a point along the same route and then come "back" along the same path to where you began.
