What are the Tour recommendations from komoot (Smart Tours)
To help you find the best Tour, komoot creates custom Tour suggestions based on the most popular trails and highlights from the komoot community. On komoot, these Tour recommendations are called Smart Tours. No matter if you want to save time when planning or explore a new place, you will always get smart suggestions for your selected sport in the Discover section. In this article you will learn how to find Smart Tours via the search, how you can recognize them and how they are generated.
How to find Smart Tours?
Using the search function in the Discover section or even scrolling through your personalized content in the Discover feed, you will come across komoot's Tour recommendations (Smart-Tours).
Tip: A step-by-step guide on how to find komoot Smart-Tours via the search function in the app or via the web version is summarized here: Discover: Find Tour suggestions.
Adapt Smart Tours
Since the Smart-Tours are automatically created tours, it can happen that the routing leads e.g. along a busy road, although there is a better alternative. Therefore, we recommend viewing the route in advance and, if desired, to adjust it to your own needs by setting additional waypoints.
Tip: How to manage waypoints via the Route planner on the website, Android app or in the iOS app is explained in the linked articles.
How to recognize a Smart Tour?
If you open a Tour and find the following note at the bottom of the page, then you can be sure it's a Smart Tour: "Our tour suggestions are based on thousands of activities that other people have done with komoot."
Tip: If you open the tour via the website, you will find the addition "smarttour" in the URL of the tour details. In this case, the URL (website link) looks like this: https://www.komoot.de/smarttour/12345.
How are Smart Tours generated?
Smart Tours are generated by an algorithm. They are based on a combination of popular highlights (with many positive ratings and comments) and anonymized tour data recorded by komoot users. As soon as komoot recognizes that a trail is often frequented and popular, a Smart Tour is generated for the respective sport via this route. The Smart Tours are continuously improved based on further recorded tours. The continuous evaluation of highlights and their tips also influences the improvement of the Smart Tours. If the OpenStreetMap data on which the komoot map is based changes, the Smart Tours are updated automatically.
Potential issues with Smart Tours
Since this is an automated process based on user-generated content, errors can occur. Some of the problems that may arise and how to fix them are described below.
Error in the map data
If a Smart Tour uses a trail that no longer exists or is no longer accessible, you can enhance it by updating the map data from OpenStreetMap. This ensures that the paths will be displayed correctly on the komoot map in the future.
Spelling mistakes in the title
If you find a spelling mistake in the title of a Smart Tour, it is most likely due to a typo in the Highlight that was used to generate the name. In this case, please find the Highlight linked in the Tour and help us improve our content by pointing it out to our editors. Here's how to do it: Request to edit a highlight
Missing information
To prepare for your Tour, you can click on the Highlight contained in the Smart Tours, in which you will find relevant warnings as well as additional information such as opening hours. The tips from the community also contain helpful information on local restrictions, for example.
If you have collected additional valuable information during a tour, leave these in the respective Highlight as a tip to inform other users about it. This way, the community can also benefit from your experiences and the content is continuously improved.
