If you have a compatible Garmin device, you can use the komoot app (also known as the "komoot app for Garmin"), which was developed specifically for Garmin devices. It can be downloaded in the Garmin Connect IQ Store, as described in this article. Through the app, not only the GPS coordinates are transferred, but also Tour details. In addition to the duration and length, the elevation profile as well as the trail conditions are transferred. Furthermore, Tours can be downloaded for offline use. This article explains which other functions are available with the komoot app for Garmin.

Note: If your Garmin device is not compatible with the komoot app for Garmin, you can still use your Tours on the Garmin as described here. In this case, however, only with the functionality of your device.

How to install the komoot app for Garmin, connect and navigate Tours is outlined in this article: The komoot app for Garmin devices.

Tours synchronization

With the komoot app for Garmin, your Tours planned with komoot are automatically transferred to the Garmin device and you can navigate them directly on the Garmin. The Tours recorded using the komoot app for Garmin are also synchronized with your komoot account.

Attention: For the auto-transfer to work, the connection must be set up as described in this article.

Maps

Komoot Tours are transferred as GPS coordinates to the Garmin and will be displayed on the map of the Garmin device. This means that during navigation you will always see the maps installed on your Garmin device itself and at no time the komoot map. If you don't have maps installed on your Garmin, you will see a tourline on a white background. How the map is displayed always depend on the used Garmin device.

Note: On some Garmin devices, and especially on smartwatches, you won't see a proper map, but a tourline.

Navigation

Which kind of navigation is available depends on the technical requirements of your device. Komoot Tours are transferred to the Garmin device as GPS coordinates and displayed on the map of the Garmin device. If your Garmin device features its own maps, starting the navigation will update and recalculate the route based on the map data of the Garmin. This may take a few minutes. Thereafter, some Garmin devices have full navigation available. The navigation is based on the data of your Garmin device.

On a few Garmin devices, Gamins' spoken audio prompts can be used in combination with bluetooth headphones. This article in the Garmin Support Center describes for which devices this function is available and how to activate it.

Attention: The recalculation of the Tour by Garmin, may change the track of the route.

Note: For Vívoactive and Venu models compatible with the komoot app for Garmin, navigation is provided by komoot. Voice navigation is not available for these models.

Turn-by-turn navigation arrows

Turn-by-turn navigation in the form of arrows are currently only displayed in the komoot app for Garmin for compatible Vívoactive and Venu devices. For other watches and GPS devices, this is currently not yet possible when using the komoot app for Garmin.

If your Garmin device features maps and is able to recalculate the route, your Garmin will adapt the Tour to the device's maps. In this case, you can see turn-by-turn instructions in the form of arrows provided by Garmin.

Filter Tours

By using the komoot app for Garmin, Tours can be filtered by the following criteria:

  • Sport
  • Date
  • Nearest
  • Longest

Record Tour

With the komoot app for Garmin, you can now record Tours on supported Vívoactive and Venu devices

Premium features

If you're a komoot Premium user, using the komoot app for Garmin allows you to view your own Collections or even your bookmarked Collections directly on your Garmin device and navigate from there.
