POIs or Points of interest are what we in komoot call places that can be of interest or use during your Tour. There are different categories of POIs that can be displayed or hidden on the map on the website as well as in the komoot app. We adapt the POIs from OpenStreetMap, which is the basis of all our map data. On komoot the following POI categories are provided:

  • Beaches and Swimming Pools
  • For the Kids
  • Natural Sights
  • Points of Interest
  • Food and Drink
  • Parks
  • Accommodation
  • Camping Grounds
  • Parking
  • Train Stations and Bus Stops
  • Public Water Fountains
  • Public Toilets
  • For Dogs
  • E-Bike Charging Points
  • Mountain Passes
  • Checkpoints
  • Shops
  • Internet Hot Spots
  • Bike Repair
  • Shelters
  • ATMs

You can use our POIs for planning by simply clicking on them and adding them to your Tour. They will then be displayed as one of the waypoints of your Tour. Please note that it is not possible to see POIs on the map during navigation, if you did not add them as a waypoint.

Display and Hide POIs during Planning

To show POI categories on the website in order to use them for planning, open the route planner, then click into the address field on the top left. The categories will be displayed below. You can then click on them and a tick mark will appear to the right of the category and this category will be displayed. You have the possibility to select several POI categories at once.

When you plan in the komoot app, you can select the POI category, by opening the planner and clicking into the search field on the top of the screen. The list with the POI categories will appear and you can select the category you need. In the app it is not possible to select more than one category at the same time.

Bookmarking POIs

You can save POIs as bookmarks in order to use them for planning in the future. Click on a POI you want to save and a button “Bookmark” will appear on the left side when using the website. If you are using the komoot app on an iOS device, click the POI symbol and then on the small arrow on the right which will appear in the information field. There you will find the option “Bookmark”. Using the komoot app on an Android device, you can simply click on the POI and the option “Save” will pop up in the information field below.

The saved POIs can later be found under "Saved Places" in the app as well as on our website. You will find the button “Saved Places”, when clicking again in the search field in the planner.
