When planning a route on komoot, you decide how the route runs and where it leads.

Tip: You can change the route type or reverse the route direction at any time while planning.

Switch to Round Trip

One Way () routes take you from A to B, and this is the default route setting in komoot.
They're useful for multi-stage routes or for returning by public transport.

Round Trip () routes bring you back to your starting point using the fastest route for your selected sport. With only a start point and destination, this often results in an out-and-back route.
By adding waypoints, you can shape the route into a loop, create a different return route, or manually create a round trip from scratch.

To switch your route to a round trip, follow these steps for your platform:

  1. Add a start point and an end point
  2. Switch to Round trip in the sidebar
  1. Add a start point and an end point
  2. Adjust route > switch to Round trip
  1. Add a start point and an end point
  2. Tap the bottom panel > switch to Round trip

Manually shape a round trip

You can also build or adjust a round trip by adding waypoints step by step:

  1. Keep the route type set to One way.
  2. Add waypoints along your desired route.

To control the order of waypoints:

  • Select a point on the map and choose Set as destination.
  • On desktop: hold Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac), then click the next point to add it as the new destination.

Reverse the route direction

  1. Add a start point and an end point
  2. During planning, use Reverse Waypoint Order () in the sidebar.
  1. Add a start point and an end point
  2. During planning, tap the three dots and select Reverse direction ().

Attention: If you plan a route in one direction and decide to go the other way, the navigation will prompt you to turn around. If you don't know which direction you want to go, create two routes in both directions.
