Manage profile and content visibility
You can manage the visibility of your profile and content on komoot. These settings give you control over who sees your saved routes, activities, and Collections, who can follow you, and even who can find you in the friends search.
This article explains the available privacy levels and helps you choose the settings that are right for you.
Visibility of your profile
These settings let you control who can find and view your profile, and who can follow you. To update them, open your Accounts Settings and go to the Privacy section.
Profile visibility
This setting determines who can see your profile, and you can choose from two available options:
-
Public
Other komoot users can follow you freely without approval and see your Routes and Collections, unless you've limited their visibility individually.
-
Private
You'll need to approve followers before they can access your Route details or Collections. People who don't follow you won't be able to see your Routes or Collections.
Note: Regardless of your profile visibility, some basic information is always visible to unblocked users, including your username, profile picture, and follower count.
Tip: You can also adjust the visibility of individual Routes or Collections at any time, independently of your profile settings.
Komoot search
By default, other users can find your profile by searching for your username. Your real name is never shown unless you use it as your username.
You can hide your profile from search results in your privacy settings. When enabled, your profile won't appear when others search for your username or email address.
Note:
- This does not make your profile private.
- Your existing followers retain the same access as before.
- Your profile may still appear on the Home feed if you're tagged in a Route.
Expert & Pioneer listing
This setting controls whether your profile is publicly listed as a komoot Expert or Pioneer for the sports and regions you've contributed to. When enabled, your profile can appear in relevant places across komoot, helping other users discover your routes and contributions.
Note: Expert & Pioneer listing settings are available only on the website and iOS app.
Visibility of your content
You can control who can see your content by setting its visibility. You can manage default visibility settings separately for your saved routes and activities, as well as for your Personal Collections.
The available options include:
- Only you – Your content is private and visible only to you.
- Close friends – Your content is shared only with people on your close friends list.
- Whoever can see my profile – This setting matches your profile's visibility settings.
Tip: You can invite participants to a route or activity regardless of its visibility setting. For example, a route set to Only you can still be shared with invited participants.
Note: Highlights you create, or any contributions (photos or tips) you add to existing Highlights, are always publicly visible to the entire komoot community.
