Places and Saved places
Places of interest and Saved places help you discover, mark, and reuse locations on the komoot map when planning routes or navigating.
They make it easier to find useful spots along the way and to save locations you want to come back to later.
Places of interest
Places of interest are predefined locations shown on the komoot map to help you discover useful or relevant spots while planning or navigating.
They are pulled from OpenStreetMap (OSM) and typically include:
- Parks and natural areas
- Benches and rest areas
- Drinking water points
- E-bike charging stations
- Viewpoints, shelters, and similar map features
Places of interest are part of the map data. They cannot be created, edited, or removed by users.
Saved places
Saved places are locations that you personally save on the komoot map so you can easily find them again later.
A Saved Place can be:
- A Highlight
- A Place of interest
- Any other point on the map, even if it is not marked as a Place of interest
Saved places are linked to your account and are only visible to you. When included in a shared route, they are displayed as generic waypoints, Highlights, or Places of interest, depending on the location type.
You can turn them on or off on the map and access them at any time:
You can access all Saved places from the sidebar while planning.
You can access all Saved places from the search function while planning.
Manage your Saved places
You can save places while planning a route:
- Select a location on the map to open the waypoint dialog.
- Tap or click the Bookmark icon.
The location is then added to your Saved places and can be reused for future planning.
You can remove a Saved Place at any time:
- Click on the individual Saved Place on the map or access your Saved Places.
- Delete the Saved place or remove the bookmark.
Show Saved places during navigation in the app
The mobile app does not currently display Saved places (such as shops, accommodation, campsites, or water points) along a route during navigation unless they are added to the route as waypoints.
As a workaround, add the places you care about as waypoints in the desktop planner so they appear during navigation in the app:
- Click a point of interest or Saved Place on the map and add it to your route as a waypoint.
- In the left-hand panel, expand the list of waypoints for your route.
- Click the pencil icon next to a waypoint to edit it.
- In the window on the map, customize the category for that waypoint.
Once added, these points become part of your route and show as upcoming waypoints during navigation in the app.

FAQ
What happens if a Saved Place disappears from the map?
Saved places are based on map data. If a Place of interest or Highlight is removed from the map, it may no longer be available as a Saved Place.
What's the difference between Saved places and saved routes?
Saved places are individual locations you bookmark on the map. Saved routes are full routes you plan or save for later use. Both can be used for planning, but they are managed separately.
